On January 21st, 2019, Brooklyn Academy of Music celebrated their 33rd Annual Brooklyn Tribute to the Noble Peace Prize Winner, Activist, Civil Rights Leader, Minister, Congressional Gold Medalist, The Honorable Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. This tribute followed a screening of Dolores, about gender bias, defeat and victory, a film directed by Peter Bratt. This celebration brought together Civil Rights activists, musicians, and civic leaders to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. King. This tribute was about togetherness, change and moving forward, something Martin Luther King Jr would have wanted for us all, a better tomorrow. Each congressional member spoke about how life today is moving backwards and the immediate change that is needed for continued growth as human beings and as a country. Each year, dignitary officials speak out on change and the things they see and want for our country. US Senator, Chuck Schumer, Mayor Bill de Blasio, First Lady Chirlane McCray, Majority NYC Council Laurie Cumbo, Congressmen Hakeem Jeffries, Prosecutor of Kings County Eric Gonzalez among many other spoke on Martin Luther King Jr. message and his dream. This event also featured music performances by The Brooklyn Interdenominational Choir and Oddisee & Good Company. Keynote speaker Tarana Burke, founder of the "Me Too" movement is all about social justice. She dedicated 25 yrs of her life to supporting sexual harassed individuals who are afraid to have a voice. She is that voice! Tarana Burke spoke about her Bronx roots which led her to Selma Alabama and various HBCU's in the south to study leadership and organizing. She would volunteer in the National Right Museum and build long lasting relationship that helped shape her into who she is today. Tarana Burke has created an international movement that is inspiring and courageous. We would like to thank Sarah Garvey, Associate Director-Publicity at Bam for allowing us to attend the celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Kwanzaa Crawl is a movement that was created by Kerry Coddett and Krystal Stark. Their aim and determination of this movement is to bring unity and awareness all under the seven principles of Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa Crawl is a one-day event bringing people of the African diaspora together to support Black owned businesses in their communities. We were truly delighted to experience such a feeling of togetherness amongst one union. The vibe and energy was so electric it pulsated through from one individual to the next as soon as you entered the registration area. The creativity in the attire that people displayed was definitely forms of expressions that said "Yes I Am Here". This Kwanzaa Crawl is not your ordinary bar crawl, so please make that known! After registration there is a celebration held expressing the seven principles of Kwanzaa. Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Nia, Kuumba and Imani. This movement is so well organized. Each person participating in the Kwanzaa Crawl is assigned to a team with a team leader which has designated locations for their group to attend. Each team leader we met had a bull horn creating a sign of awareness stating "let's do this my people" and keep up while your at it (lol). Please keep in mind teams were singing as they were in the streets of Harlem creating a synergy that was unbelievable. The black owned businesses that opened their doors so that this union could be celebrated and allowed us to honor them were Lenox Sapphire, Shrine, Gin Fizz, Cove Lounge and Harlem Hookah. Each and every one of them truly welcomed the teams with open arms. Each establishment had a personal DJ that kept everyone on their feet the entire time that was allotted to stay at one venue. My staff and I at Get It For Less were so intrigued by the unity and the selflessness that was involved in this movement. We can see where this is taking our communities and this is only the beginning stages of the third year. Krystal & Kerry thank you for opening up your lives, creating and making your vision a reality. We can't wait to see what is in store next year.

Hip Hop Film Festival 2018 was a full four days of film, art, music and networking. The lineup of films were phenomenon. The cast and directors of these short films and documentaries really left the audience thinking. I had the privilege to check out the Urban Web Summit created by Dallas Austin. Dallas Austin plays and essential role in the Hip Hop Film Festival each year with C R Capers: Founder / CEO (Chief Rocka). The Urban Web Summit gives these creators a chance to let everyone know how their film came about, where its going forward and the thought process behind it. Dallas Austin and C.P Capers together are the ultimate dual when it comes showcasing off the talent of the directors and cast members that are in the festival. We had an opportunity to attend each day of this years festival and got a quick glimpse at great film making, films by Michael Pinckney "Sole Kings", CYLLA SENII "Situationships" and DUI JARROD " Brooklyn. Blue. Sky just to name a few. The most anticipated moment of the Hip Hop Film Festival was the honoring of " The Goat" Melvin Van Pebbles! Everyone gave him the standing ovation that was so well deserved and thanking him for paving the way for film makers like himself coming up after him. He spoke to everyone and informed them to constantly love one another no matter what, and it resonated through the crowd. This was such a true and blessed moment that you could feel the love and it was truly heart felt for everyone. We will be posting the entire list of winners at a later date once it is posted. The Best Foreigner Feature was a film called "City Of Light" Directed by Pascal Tessaud, this film moved us in so many ways. It really showed you how racism is alive everywhere, even in Paris. We are looking forward to next year's films, art and music. The Future Of Fresh!
Art Of La Soiree Cointreau Event NYC is a spectacular tasting of Cointreau French Orange Liqueur that is used to be blended with a variety of spirits. This event was held in Hell Kitchen and we truly enjoyed the ambiance that was setup in the room. The sponsors had a fully decked out long length table for a guest of maybe 15 at a time to dine together on hors d'oeuvre and a small dinner with an open bar throughout the entire event and a live DJ. There was also a set up for a small cocktail making class if you signed up. Cointreau was such a great summer event. When they are in town we will let you know. Thanks Cointreau

We also had the opportunity to participate in up to 3 seminars that gave us a deeper insight into the world of mezcal. There was food pairing of some of the best foods to consider when drinking this smoky spirit. Thanks Panorama Mezcal.
Macy's Flower Show 2018 was full of bloom and energy. You could feel it as soon as you enter the entire store. Everyone there seemed so excited about this two week long event. Style Fashion Week NYC 2018 is the event to be at during Fashion Week NYC. All designers that were involved this year hit the mark, when it comes to detail, design and style. This year Style Fashion Week was held at Cipriani 42nd street. Designers like Draya Michele with her MintSwim Line, Adrian Alicea and so many others just to name a few. The Big Chocolate Show is the perfect name for this event! There was chocolate everywhere. This is our second year attending and each year we try to eat as much chocolate as possible. This years event was held at The New Yorker, A Wyndham Hotel in Herald Square. Each year brands from all over participate and showcase their specialty chocolate. There was Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, Chocolate with Nuts, Chocolate Pretzels and more. We truly enjoyed brands like, Snacking Chocolate with Quinoa, Effies, Shirley Delicious Confections and a multitude of others. There were also classes set up for pairings of chocolates with cocktails, seminars and lollipop making. Each class was filled with a bunch of excited chocolate lovers ready and eager to learn and taste. In the 21+ Lounge on the upper level there were spirit tasting from Montanya Rum, Gubba Rum and The Cocktail Guru making cocktails. The Cocktail Guru made a delicious Fall Punch with Don Q Rum, puree cranberry and lemon cider that made you feel like you were somewhere laying on the beach. It was truly such a refreshing drink. Thanks so much to all the staff at The Big Chocolate Show and your volunteers, our experience once again was such a delight. Thanks!!

Hennessy Cocktail Making Class with Mixologist Masa Urushido @Williams Sonoma was a hit. This was the first class of many with the Cocktail Courier and Hennessy at Williams Sonoma. The cocktails were breath taking and seemed so simple to make in your own home. I had the pleasure of meeting Masa Urushido personally, very poised, friendly and approachable. After the cocktail class each guests were given a shot of aged Hennessy to finish this class off with a bang. Thanks Williams Sonoma!
Beer Bourbon & BBQ 2018 was held this year at The Tunnel in NYC. There were food, bourbon and beer vendors from all over. You were given a glass upon entrance to taste as much bourbon and beer your heart desired. There were also a few events during the day that truly stood out for us, the roasting of a whole entire pig was a true experience like no other. You could smell the pig roasting from a mile away. During the event Handsome Devil Restaurant from Newburgh NY was busy roasting the pig to bring out for tasting. When they rolled it out everyone was in awe. It was golden brown and crisp. Everyone was lined up to get the best piece they could while it was still smoking hot, crisp and tender.
