Lincoln Center made history for the culture of hip hop on Friday June 10th, 2022 with Summer of the City-An Orchestral Tribute to The Notorious B.I.G hosted by Angie Martinez ,radio personality – power 105.1 (WWPR), rapper and actress. Laurie Cumbo, Commissioner of New York City Department of Cultural Affairs honored the crowd with a welcoming speech also acknowledging how historical this moment is and how a young man from Brooklyn, New York refused to give up on his dream, and how his legacy still lives on today. New York City will always remember this night as being iconic and a feeling to REMEMBER, REJOICE & RECLAIM .
Multi-instrumentalist and composer Miguel Atwood-Ferguson’s orchestra kept the crowd out of their seats celebrating the musical legacy of iconic New York emcee The Notorious B.I.G. Miquel Atwood-Ferguson has proven his versatility as an arranger and earned respect in the hip hop community with his recent concert commemoration for the late producer J Dilla.
This Lincoln Center premiere, supported by The Estate of the Notorious B.I.G., will feature a concert symphony performance of his most well known songs from the multi-platinum album Ready to Die and 11 x Platinum Life After Death, featuring special guest and an extensive live set from regular B.I.G. collaborators.
